CENTRAL SERICULTURAL RESEARCH & TRAINING INSTITUTE, PAMPORE

Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute, Pampore is one among the premier institutes of Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India entrusted with Research & Development of mulberry sericulture in North India. The Institute has two Regional Sericultural Research Stations at Miransahib, Jammu (J&K) and Dehradun (U.K.), 03 Research Extension Centres and one P4,Basic Seed Farm (B.S.F.)Station at Manasbal (J&K). The Institute provides need based Research, Development/Extension and HRD support to the states of North India viz. Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana.

With the primary aim to boost and revitalize the silk industry of North India, the Institute has implemented a number of research projects in mulberry, silkworm improvement, silkworm crop management etc., so that, region/season specific technologies could be developed to increase the mulberry sericulture qualitatively & quantitatively in North India. The Institute maintains a rich germplasm of 111 silkworm races and 82 mulberry accessions of temperate origin for conservation and utilization.

The Institute is located at Gallandar, Pampore at a distance of approximately 16 kms from Srinagar city on the Srinagar - Jammu National Highway. The nearest airport is Srinagar while as the nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi, which is at a distance of 300 km.
